BBQ Meatballs
1 large onion, diced
1 bottle chili sauce
¾ cup ketchup
1 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons worcestershire
1 teaspoon Kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 lbs ground beef
¾ lb. ground pork
¾ lb. ground veal
2 eggs
½ cup unseasoned bread crumbs
In a mixing bowl combine onion, chili sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, salt, pepper, worcestershire, salt and pepper. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl combine ground beef, pork, veal, eggs, breadcrumbs and ⅓ of the “sauce mix”. Shape into 15-18 meatballs. Place in a 13×9 baking dish. Cover with remaining sauce and bake 350* oven for about 1 hour. Serve warm with a side of creamy mac and cheese or mashed potatoes!
*Chef’s note: veal can be substituted with pork or ground beef. Meatballs can be made ahead to stage of forming the meatballs. Just cover shaped meatballs with saran wrap or foil and refrigerate. Separately refrigerate sauce mix in air tight container. When ready to bake, remove cover and pour remaining “sauce mix” over the meatballs and bake as directed.
